Exercise Tips
Water Based Exercise

Water Based ExercisePeople who are obese or far heavier than they should be are starting to turn to water based exercises to help them lose weight and to start getting healthy. One of the reasons is that water based exercises are much gentler on the joints and bones of the body, even though the workouts are still very effective at burning calories.

Water based exercises are just like normal exercises except that they are done in a body of water like a swimming pool. Because the body becomes buoyant in the water, the full body weight doesn’t impact on areas like the knees while exercising. This low impact way of exercising not only prevents injury but also makes the workout much more tolerable, particularly for those who carry a lot of weight.

One of the other important parts of water based exercises is known as drag. Drag is the resistance that the water creates as you move through it. This is very beneficial because it increases the effectiveness of the workout over normal exercises. Also the resistance in the water occurs in every direction, up, down and side to side, maximizing the effectiveness of every movement in the water.

Any type of exercises can be done in the water. You can jog, run, use weights; in fact almost any exercise will work in the water. By adding accessories like fins you can increase the resistance and intensity of your water based exercises.

There’s also another really important factor of water based exercises, that doesn’t have anything to do with loosing weight. They’re a lot of fun. Unlike normal exercise routines that can become boring and tiresome, water based exercise routines don’t seem to involve the same level of boredom. No matter how old you are, you’re never too old to splash in the water or to just float for a while.

If you’re looking for a new way to do old exercises, you really have to consider water based exercising. There fun and effective and easy to do. Why not give them a try? You have nothing to lose but the extra weight.
