Community Book Read from Ganondagan and Nazareth College

As the culmination of this year’s Native American Lecture Series—Messages from Haudenosaunee Leaders—Friends of Ganondagan and Nazareth College will host a Community Book Read featuring To Become a Human Being: The Message of Tadodaho Chief Leon Shenandoah by Steve Wall. The discussion on Tuesday, November 15 from 7-9 pm, at Nazareth College’s Shults Center will be facilitated by Ganondagan Site Manager G. Peter Jemison and Nazareth College Professor and Chair of Religious Studies Dr. Susan Nowak, and is free and open to the public.

The book is a culmination of conversations over 13 years between the late Tadadaho Chief Leon Shenandoah and writer and photographer Steve Wall. In 1969, Leon Shenandoah was given the position of “Tadadaho,” the highest distinction in the entire Six Nations Confederacy, and recognition of his role as their spiritual leader. For Tadadaho Chief Leon Shenandoah, To Become a Human Being meant to rise to an expanded level of consciousness by living on the Earth as it was intended. The book captures the essence of Native American wisdom. Author Steve Wall has written and photographed more than a half-dozen books about Native American wisdom and spirituality. His work has been published in National Geographic, Time, People, Smithsonian, and other national media.
