Twisted Minds

Yatzek - Twisted Minds

Yatzek could be stuck in the 80’s, but something tells me that they are not afraid to admit that. That certain thing that tells me that is their record Twisted Minds. Comprised of enough guitar work to make your ears bleed, Twisted Minds is a record looking to bring some type of 80’s guitar rock resurrection to the area.

Twisted Minds plays fast, but it isn’t a short record musically. There is no lack of riffing on this record. Look no further than the very first track, Bad Girls, which has the look and feel of a song that Motley Crue wanted to write but didn’t, then The Beast In Me has me thinking that Yatzek played clubs on Sunset in the early 80’s in a past life. The guitar work is obviously top notch, because seriously, how couldn’t it be? The riffing and soloing are the meat and potatoes of Twisted Minds, and go a long in making up Yatzek’s core musical dynamic. But realize that I’m not selling the rest of the band short, primarily the vocals. It isn’t all just talented guitars. The vocals have a nice range to them, going from a Gene Simmons-esque sound to a Dave Mustaine growl. But still the guitars are what are selling the product, so go with it. Speaking of, the best axe-wielding you’ll find on Twisted Minds comes in the form of Red Hot. Here you will find the best of everything that Yatzek’s six string can offer, at least in my opinion.

Twisted Minds isn’t as glammy as I thought it would be upon first listen, but that’s not a bad thing. It’s less Poison and Whitesnake, and more Sabbath and Dio. You can’t really go wrong with that.

Rocks Like:
- Kiss – Lick It Up
- Dio – Dream Evil
- Megadeth – Peace Sells…But Who’s Buying
