Democratic National Convention: Night Three

Democratic National Convention: Night ThreeIt was night three of the Convention and what a night it was. Probably the biggest and most anticipated event was Hillary Clinton releasing her Delegates, making the vote unanimous, and making Barack Obama the first African American ever to be nominated by a major political party to be President of the United States.

But it was a night of big events and so the excitement went on. Of course it was Bill Clinton’s night to address the Convention, and like Hillary the evening before, President Clinton delivered what was probably the best, most important speech since he had been President. He left no doubt that Barack Obama is ready, willing and able to lead the United States, and to face the challenges now facing the nation.

Closing the night was Joe Biden. And although Joe isn’t an eloquent speaker, he does get the point across and he does get the job done. This one speech proved that Joe was the perfect man to be the Vice Presidential candidate. He has known John McCain for over twenty five years, and made it clear that John McCain is wrong for America.

It was also a night of surprises. The first surprise in my opinion was the awesome and powerful speech delivered by, none other than John Kerry. Kerry was in a mode that I can only describe as “on fire,” as he pointed out the differences between John McCain the Senator and John McCain the candidate. If Kerry had been so powerful in his competition with George Bush, this might be a different Convention.

But of course the big surprise of the night was the surprise appearance of Barack Obama at the end of the night. Just as Joe finished his speech, Obama surprised Joe and the audience by coming out on stage to stand for the first time with Joe as the officially nominated candidates. It was a magic moment.

So far it’s been an amazing Convention that has left the Party, power charged and ready for the challenge ahead. Tonight, Thursday August 28, is the last night of the Convention and the night we will see Barack Obama speak as the officially nominated Candidate for President. Expectations are high, and it seems unlikely that Obama will let us down.
