Today in History
In 1977 David Bowie released the album "Heroes." In 1987 Def Leppard's album "Hysteria" was certified Gold and Platinum. In 1994 Queensryche's album "Empire" and Loverboy's album "Lovin' Every Minute of It" were certified multi-Platinum. In 1995 David Bowie released the album "Outside." In 2002 U2's Bono was named the 2003 MusiCares Person of the Year, and was formally recognized several months later in conjunction with the 2003 Grammy Awards events. He was also picked for the 2002 Gold Medal from the American Irish Historical Society, an honor he received a month later. In 2003 The Federal Communications Commission ruled that when U2's Bono used a choice four-letter word in his acceptance speech at the Golden Globe Awards it was not in violation of any indecency rules. Supergrass was forced to cancel its North American tour because a family illness caused frontman Gaz Coombes to return to England. In 2004 Live Aid organizer and activist Bob Geldof was back in Ethiopia on a fact-finding mission with the UK's Commission for Africa. Poison's C.C. DeVille was named the worst guitar soloist of all time by "Guitar World" magazine. The publication cited his overindulgence on "Swallow This...Live!" to back up its decision. Ozzy Osbourne's daughter Kelly made her TV acting debut, in the role of Deborah on the teen drama series "life as we know it." In 2006 Counting Crows, Tears For Fears, John Mayer, and Sarah McLachlan were among the performers at Andre Agassi's 11th annual Grand Slam for Children in Las Vegas.<
