Research Looks At Facial Scars And Relationships
(Undated) -- Facial scars on men are found to be attractive to women looking for short-term relationships. Research from the University of Liverpool examined how scarring could impact the choice of a mate by men and women in both long-term and short-term relationships. Females were found to prefer men with facial scars for short-term matchups and equally liked scarred and unscarred faces for the long haul. Men were not quite as discerning, finding women with and without facial scars attractive for both long and short-term relationships.
In the study published in the journal "Personality and Individual Differences," one researcher explains the findings for women, saying they may have found scars to be attractive for the short-term because it could be a symbol of masculinity. Men who don't have scars could be seen as more caring and better suited for longer relationships. Scientists say the view that scars are a sign of strength is shared by non-Western cultures as well, such as a tribe in Venezuela who use face-paint to accentuate scars. |
