No Budget Cuts Made At Special Session
(Albany, NY) -- A special session by New York State lawmakers to deal with a mounting budget gap never got to a vote. Instead, legislative leaders met publicly with Governor David Paterson. After an hour of bickering and fighting Governor Paterson concluded his two-billion dollars worth of proposed cuts would not be considered. Further action will now wait until he presents next year's budget on December 16th. Republicans in both the Senate and Assembly said they didn't want education cuts coming in the middle of the year and pushed for solutions to come in the framework of the next budget. Governor Paterson chided the GOP for not coming up with their own budget cuts to solve the problem before lawmakers arrived in Albany. |
