Sugarland's "Common Thread"
Sugarland is trying to promote social consciousness through music. To accomplish this, singer Jennifer Nettles has come up with "Common Thread," something she says she hopes will be, quote, "a multi-genre diverse bill" that supports "activism and community organization." She explains, quote, "I do believe that one action can cause a ripple and make a difference. So, if you inspire some of your fans to go out into their own communities and effect change, then that's success." Sugarland is launching "Common Thread" with three performances with the Indigo Girls' Emily Saliers and singer-songwriter Amos Lee, and they're each donating their portion of proceeds from the shows to different charities. The first "Common Thread" concert is set for Beaver Creek, Colorado on Thursday.
Nettles is giving her funds to the American Cancer Society, her musical partner Kristian Bush is contributing to the American Liver Foundation, Saliers is playing for Honor the Earth, and Lee is giving to the Music & Mentorship Program of Intercultural Family Services.
