Artists Collaborate For World AIDS Day Music Magazine Debut
U2, Coldplay and the Killers are just some of the big names from the world of music teaming up to support World AIDS Day. Billboard.com reports the musicians have contributed exclusive songs to the new digital music magazine RED(WIRE), which hits the web today. The magazine is a branch of the activist organization (RED), led by U2 frontman Bono. All proceeds from the five-dollar subscription will go toward helping HIV-infected people in Africa. Every Wednesday, users will receive a new issue of RED(WIRE) that includes an exclusive song from a major artist, a song from another artist being showcased, a featured video or photograph, and a glimpse into how the money is directly benefiting people in Africa. RED(WIRE) founder Don MacKinnon says the main point of the project is to use social networking as a way to change the world. He adds, quote, "Big artists may curate an issue. The whole goal was to create a creative platform." Other artists to be featured in the weekly magazine include the Dixie Chicks, John Legend and R.E.M. The Killers have also joined forces with Elton John and the Pet Shop Boys' Neil Tennant for a special Christmas song titled "Joseph, Better You Than Me." MacKinnon adds that he is also in talks with rapper Jay-Z to be featured in RED(WIRE).
