A Free Metallica
Metallica may follow the trend of many top shelf artists and pursue a future on their own. Drummer Lars Ulrich tells RollingStone.com, quote, "We're free of our record contract. We have that element of complete freedom with the next record, so we can do whatever we want." However, Ulrich says fans shouldn't expect anything soon as he is still decompressing from the experience of "Death Magnetic."
In other Metallica news, Ulrich is getting plenty of attention these days for his extensive art collection. The drummer just let go of a Basquiat painting for 13-point-five-million dollars. He tells "Stereo Warning" that while he feels a certain nostalgia for the pieces, he considers it an exercise to let go of his art. Ulrich says, quote, "You don't own art. The artists own you. You just hold on to it to enjoy it for a while. It becomes a revolving door, and I have to continue to put those paintings out there. There is very little art that I hoard." The rocker says he loves going to artist spaces, galleries, and auction houses, and he feels accepted for who he is in art circles. |
