Paterson Promises Push To Lift Cap On Charter Schools
(Albany, NY) -- Governor Paterson is continuing his efforts to bring more charter schools to the Empire State. Paterson told charter school supporters in Albany Tuesday he will continue to push legislation that would lift the cap on charter schools in New York, despite the state Legislature turning down a similar measure from the governor last month. Paterson says New York is already close to the limit of 200 charter schools. He'd like to see that number move to 460. The governor says the state may lose out of hundreds of millions of dollars in federal education money if the charter school cap isn't lifted.< |
