Kelly Clarkson Supporting Ron Paul
GOP presidential hopeful Ron Paul has an "American Idol" in his corner. Singer Kelly Clarkson voiced her support for the Texas politician via Twitter Wednesday saying, "If he wins the nomination for the Republican party in 2012 he's got my vote." She also added, "Too bad he probably won't." The singer's support of Paul via social media did not come without some criticism. Some of Clarkson's Twitter followers were quick to point out Paul's ties to an old newsletter that had published commentary described as racist and homophobic in nature. The singer said she had never heard of Paul being described as racist or homophobic and that she, herself, loves "all people" and supports "gay rights, straight rights, women's rights, men's rights, white/black/purple/orange rights." Paul, for his part, has denied writing the controversial commentary that turned up in his newsletters that ended publication 20 years ago. Clarkson says she likes Paul because he believes in less government and letting the people "make the decision and mold our country." She adds, "Out of all the Republican nominees, he's my favorite." Paul is also an apparent favorite of a former member of GOP rival Michele Bachmann's campaign. Bachmann's Iowa campaign chairman just jumped ship to join Paul's campaign.
